Joseph T. Selinko, 78, of Pottsville died Monday, March 23, 2026, at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill East in Pottsville.
He was born on April 26, 1947, in Pottsville, a son of the late Joseph W. and Joan King Selinko. .
Joe was a 1966 graduate of Pottsville Area High School,where he lettered in baseball.
Prior to retiring Joe had numerous truck driving jobs he where worked tirelessly, however retirement wasn't for Joe, so he began working for Mack Truck in Schuylkill Haven
Joseph’s proudest accomplishments revolved around his lifelong passion and dedication to coaching youth baseball. For over 40 years, he coached the Pottsville Teener League alongside his close friend Jack Zelwalk, guiding teams including Pottsville Guz5, Coney Island, Fab Con, and DeAngelo’s. Remarkably, Joseph never experienced a losing season, a testament to his skill, leadership, and genuine care for the development of young players. His summers were devoted to baseball, while winters saw him spending multiple nights a week bowling with his family—activities he embraced not only for sport but as a way to build lasting relationships and memories. In recognition of his exceptional contribution, Joseph was inducted into the Pottsville Bowling Association Hall of Fame, an honor reflecting his impact on the local bowling community.
Those who knew Joseph well described him as a joy to be around. Whether you bowled against him, played fast pitch softball with him, coached alongside him, or shared time at the Hosey, he was renowned for his lively spirit and engaging conversation—always ready to share a story or chat your ear off. His vibrant presence left an indelible mark on many lives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of almost 48 years of marriage Georgia, whose memory remains a cherished part of his story.
Joseph is survived by his loving family: his son Mike Selinko and wife Martha; daughter Chrissy Selinko and husband Mike Troy; son Butch Selinko; grandchildren Devin (Lupe), Stevin (Tara), and Meadow (Jake); great-grandson Gunner; daughter-in-law Colleen; sister, Joan Shaud; nieces and cousins; and companion Beverly Merkel. Their lives were enriched immeasurably by Joe love, guidance, and friendship.
Joseph T. Selinko’s legacy will be remembered through the countless lives he touched—as a steadfast coach and a beloved family man. His spirit of dedication, warmth, and joy will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know him.
A celebration of Joe's life will be held at the Good Will Grove, end of Water St. Pottsville, Saturday May 30th 2026 from 1pm to 5pm . Wear your favorite sport shirt and share your memories. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Joe be made to Pottsville Teener League C/O 316 S.
