James T. "Jim" Honicker, 62 of Port Carbon, died peacefully Wednesday evening May 13th at Wellspan Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon.
He was born on January 20, 1964, in Pottsville a son of the late Thomas F. and Elizabeth Lutzkanin Honicker.
He was a 1982 graduate of the former St. Clair Area High School, St. Clair. Jim furthered his education at Williamsport Community College
Throughout his professional life, Jim held numerous positions, embracing the role of a jack of all trades with enthusiasm and reliability. He found particular fulfillment in his final roles as a maintenance worker at the former Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic, as well as serving as the Sexton at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pottsville, where he was also a member.
Jim was widely regarded as an all-around nice guy, known for his warm personality and helpful nature. His passions extended beyond his work; he enjoyed the outdoors and cherished visits to his sons while they were in college. An avid tinkerer, he delighted in fixing and improving many things throughout his life, a testament to his resourcefulness and practical spirit. He was also a proud founding member of the Schuylkill Historical Fire Society, an organization that held special meaning to him.
Jim’s proudest accomplishments included his dedicated service as a scout leader, guiding both of his sons from cub scouts through to achieving their Eagle Scout ranks.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Honicker, and nephew, Jevon Honicker.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Joan M. Shappell Honicker; two sons, Thomas Honicker of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Christian Honicker of Port Carbon; and a sister, Diane Valentine of California. He is also remembered fondly by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who were part of his extended family circle.
Memorial service celebrating the life of Jim will be held 11AM Saturday, May 30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Pottsville, Rev. Chris Rothharpt officiating. Family and friends are invited to a visitation from 9:30AM until the time of services at the church. Interment will follow in the adjoining Memorial Garden of the church. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions in memory of Jim be made to Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 W. Arch Street, Pottsville, PA 17901
