Angeline A. "Nelle" Hummel

Angeline A. “Nelle” Hummel, lifelong resident of Pottsville, passed away peacefully at her home on December 9, 2025.

Born in Pottsville on August 28, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Anna (Letkowitz) Rakiewicz.

Nelle grew up working at her family’s restaurant/bar in East Mount Carbon, known as Teddy’s Spaghetti House.

A 1945 graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School, Nelle was proud to have earned the Certificate of Proficiency in 20th Century Typewriting. She worked for many years as a dedicated bookkeeper for Ost & Ost in Pottsville. Nelle was a faithful member of Saint Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church.

She was married to her beloved husband, Edward “Ned” R. Hummel, for 63 years until his passing in 2022.

Nelle will be remembered for her warm smile, her kindness toward everyone she met, and her gratitude for life’s simplest blessings. She had a special bond with her grandchildren, that was evident watching them give their “Bushi” the "crouch down hug".

She loved cooking! Everyone loved her homemade apple pie, and her spaghetti, with her homemade sauce. Nelle took great joy in sharing meals with family and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Theresa Rakiewicz, Margret Ney, and Regina Farber, and her brothers Theodore Rakiewicz, Roy Rakiewicz, Joseph Rakiewicz, and James Rakiewicz.

She is survived by her sisters Dolores Deitrich, of Woodbury, NJ, and Caroline Rakiewicz, of Laurinburg, NC, and her three sons, Edward (husband Bruce) of New York, NY, Michael (wife Tiffany), of Pottsville, and Mark (wife Elayne), of Bernville; and seven grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11AM Monday, Dec 15th at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to a viewing from 9AM-10:45AM. at the church. Interment will follow mass at Calvary Cemetery, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrance in the form of contributions in memory of Nelle be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville, PA 17901.
