Loretta Woznisky-Lonoskie

Loretta Woznisky-Lonoskie, 88, of Mechanicsville died Friday evening at home. She was born June 18, 1921 in Pottsville daughter of the late Michael and Irene Shimkus Pollack. She was a graduate of Pottsville High School and was office manager of the Appalachian Trail for the Boy Scouts of America prior to retiring. She was a former member of St. Casimir Roman Catholic Church, St. Clair, a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville, President of St. Casimir Rosary Confraternity, President of St. Stephen's Mothers Guild, President of Pottsville Club Ladies Auxiliary, Past president of the Lithuanian Women's Club, Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, Catholic War Veterans Post 1051, Pottsville Women's Club, Pottsville Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, and the former Pottsville Garden Club. She was preceded in death by her first husband John Woznisky, 1983, and her second husband William A. Lonoskie, Sr., July 2, 2000. Surviving are a daughter, Joanne L. Mestishen, and her husband John, Mechanicsville: a son, John Woznisky, Philadelphia: 1 granddaughter, Loretta A. Mestishen and her husband Michael D. Crenshaw. Active in the political scene on a state-wide basis during Governor Richard Thornburgh's administration she attended his inaugural events and many receptions with Presidents Gerald Ford and Ronald Regan and was a guest for White House events from time to time. An invitation to the Vatican's Apostolic Nuncio's Residence in Washington for a Christmas Tea and to view a collection of extraordinary Nativity sets was a particular social delight one year, as was the opportunity for an Audience with Pope John Paul II in Rome. She had an abiding interest in gardens and travel. Among the highlights of her garden tours included a private tour of the Vatican Gardens in Italy. She was particularly fond of the visiting the Cotswolds when traveling in England. Her favorite cities included London, Paris, Rome, Barcelona, Seville and Marrakesh. She enjoyed spending time with her late husband Bill Lonoskie and her family when they were able to join them in the winter in Palm Springs, California, Marco Island and Naples, Florida and Casa del Campo in the Dominican Republic. The theater and music scenes in Philadelphia and New York provided particular delight and for many years she looked forward to the annual Pennsylvania Society Dinner at the Waldorf the second weekend in December. For many, many years she spent her summers in Stone Harbor, NJ. Each Christmas she entertained her friends at a traditional Christmas party in her home, and often had friends visit to enjoy lunch in her garden during the summer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday at 2:00 P.M. from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 1:30 P.M. until the time of Mass.
