George A. Koury

George A. Koury, 95 of Pottsville died Monday night at Golden Living Center-York Terrace, Pottsville. He was born April 18, 1920 son of the late Abdullah and Mahaussin "Lucy" Monsuer Koury. He was a graduate of Pottsville Catholic High School and Temple University. He was co-owner for 48 years of the former Koury Wholesale on N 2nd St. in Pottsville, along with his wife whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on August 25 the former Elizabeth Bosack. George was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Maron, John, Anthony, and Daniel; 2 sisters, Marie Davis and Catherine Purcell. Surviving in addition to his wife are 2 two sons, George D. Koury, and his wife Susan, Mansfield and Robert and his wife Brigid, Pottsville: a sister Veronica Edelstein, Tom Rivers, N.J.; 4 granddaughters, Rebecca Woods and her husband Shane, KY; Katherine Koury and her husband Christopher Reed, Mansfield; Rachel Koury, Pottsville; and Elizabeth Koury, Mansfield. Nieces and Nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 1:00 P.M. from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church with Rev. James Torpey as celebrant. Family and friends may call Thursday evening from 6:00 P.M.-8:00 P.M. at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville and from 11:30 A.M.-12:30 P.M. Friday. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions made to American Macular Degeneration Foundation, P.O. Box 515, Northampton, Massachusetts 01061-0515.
