Joyce A. Coulson

      Joyce A. Coulson, 74, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on September 20, 2017, at her home in Pottsville, after a long illness.   Joyce was born in Pottsville on January 26, 1943, daughter of the late John T. McKernan and Elizabeth I. (nee Neifert) McKernan, Pottsville.   She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold W. Coulson in 2000, a granddaughter Kamri in 2001, and her only sister, Carolyn D. Generella in 2016, of Worcester, MA.   Joyce’s favorite holiday was Christmas and went all out in celebration with her family.  Her greatest joy was her 3 grandsons, whom she saw every single day, and was also a beloved grandmother to all of the neighborhood children.  She enjoyed casino trips and regular lunch and dinner meet-ups with her friends, the beach and boardwalk at Wildwood, and her many pets over the years.  Before Harold’s passing in 2000, they enjoyed camping, trips to the shore, their convertible, antique/flea and farmer’s markets, their close circle of friends, and their pets.  While her children were growing up, she had great fun in the involvement of their activities.    Joyce was a 1960 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1963 graduate of Empire Beauty School.  She was employed by the Pottsville Water Authority before leaving to raise a family.  She was employed by the Good Samaritan Hospital for 29 years until her retirement in July 2009, where she made many long-lasting friendships.   Joyce is survived by her daughter Holly Coulson and her husband, Chris Wagner, Bethlehem, PA, her son Jeff and his wife, Colleen (Davidson), 3 grandsons:  Jeffrey, Jayden, and Nicky (who she was  lucky enough to have as next door neighbors), a brother-in-law, Bruno W. Generella, 8 nieces, 3 nephews, cousins, many friends, and her pets (who will now go to live with her son and daughter).   Joyce’s life will be celebrated Tuesday at Noon from James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 1112 West Market Street, Pottsville.  A viewing will be held at the funeral home from 7-9 pm on Monday and from 10 am-Noon on Tuesday. Interment will immediately follow at Schuylkill Memorial Park.
