Charles V. "Charlie" Maurer, II
June 10, 1937 — October 12, 2017
He was born June 10, 1937 in Pottsville son of the late Marlin L. and Rita McNamara Maurer.
He was a graduate of the first graduating class at Nativity BVM High School in 1955. He attended St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Philadelphia and was a 1963 graduate of Penn State University.
He taught physics, chemistry and history for 10 years at Nativity BVM High School, Pottsville and was employed by Schuylkill County Child Development prior to retiring in 2004.
Charlie was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville where he was President of St. Patrick Seniors, a member of the parish council and a volunteer for the spaghetti dinners and the End of Summer Picnics. He was also a member of Ancient Order of Hibernian JFK Division 2, Knight of Columbus Council 431 where he was a 3rd degree Knight, Nativity BVM Alumni Association, Penn State Alumni Association, a life member of West End Hose Co. Pottsville and Six County Fireman’s Association. He was also a former member of the Pottsville Lions Club and a former Scout Master.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years Alberta “Bert” Weinus Maurer; a son Charles V. Maurer, III and his wife Jennifer, Smithfield, VA; a sister, Elizabeth Hoyt, Crowley TX; Numerous nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11AM from St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Pottsville. Family and friends are invited to call from 8:30-10:30 A.M. Thursday at James E. Humphrey Funeral Home, Pottsville. The family would prefer remembrances in the form of contributions be made to St. Patrick Memorial Fund 319 Mahantongo St. Pottsville PA, 17901.
